Miss boating? Check out some of these channels on YouTube.
Here are a few great content creators that are sure to make you miss boating just a little bit less.
What’s the next best thing to taking a boat out? Watching boat videos on YouTube. Not really, but as most countries in the world yoyo between lockdowns and freedom, it is really the best we can do for now. The latest movement control order in Malaysia even restricts recreational fishing, and there are too many gray areas that makes pleasure boating just not quite so pleasurable. In lieu of this, we have taken to binging on yachting and boating videos on YouTube, and it has been both cathartic and educational. Here are a few videos from our favourite content creators that we think you’d enjoy too.
Aquaholic on the $6.1m Princess Y72
We really enjoy Aquaholic’s content. His is an informal, vlog style, and he always nerds out on the minutiae in a casually knowledgeable way. This video was also the first time someone got to board the Princess Y72 and document her in all her glory.
Sailing Uma: a six-year (and counting!) love story
Dan and Kika, the couple of the story, first bought this 1972 Pearson 36 named Uma in 2015 for $3000 and have documented every step of their globe-trotting journey with her. This particular video from July last year is a synopsis of their story, and after discovering this channel, we have spent too much time on it. You will too.
Nautistyles’ tour of their liveaboard home
While regularly providing great reviews on interesting boats, Nautistyles also regularly gives a glimpse into the life of a couple who lives on a boat. Their own boat is a Meridian 408, which they have modified to fit their own use and preference, so they know what they are talking about when they give advice on starter liveaboard boats. They even have a little fur kid on board!
Boatzone and their Haulover playlist
Haulover is an inlet in Florida that is notorious for its big waves due to a powerful outgoing tide and a strong onshore wind. This is Florida after all, and the inlet is a perfect place to ogle at rare and expensive boats, like this particular clip with a Lamborghini-inspired craft actually catching air. The channel has a playlist dedicated to yachts braving the Haulover, and for some sick reason we just can’t turn away.
Yachting Monthly’s amazing production values
We’ve highlighted Spirit Yachts before, and their superb creations really do deserve the limelight, as reviewed in this video by Yachting Monthly. They are a great media to follow if you want the latest and quickest news of the yachting world, and their content on YouTube showcases professional production, with great camera and music work, not to mention knowledgeable hosts too.
Even during a time of lockdown and quarantine, these channels still produce great videos that scratch that boating itch for us. They are just some of the great creators we follow on YouTube, and there are bound to be many, many more. There are even great ones on other social media outlets that we may feature in a later article. Let us know if you think there are other channels we should check out!
