From simple to expensive, there is something for every boater on this list

It’s going to be the most wonderful time of the year again! There is always a veritable deluge of things to buy for someone who loves the ocean and yachting, and so we’ve scoured the internet for some of the more interesting ones that we think you should know about, across almost every price point available.

Captain’s Hat

A Captain’s Hat makes for a humourous gift for boaters with a funny bone, and it also makes an excellent ‘serious present’ for skippers who are more solemn about their duties, which means that there is no bad situation to give a boater their very own Captain’s Hat.

Book a charter

Chartering a boat, even though you boat often, is a good way to kick back and relax

Here’s another gift for all situations. Sometimes, it’s nice to be able to kick back and have a relaxing cruise without most of the responsibilities. That’s why a booking a charter, especially for special occasions, makes the occasion extra special. Booking charters for aspiring boaters also have the added benefit of gifting the aspirant with experience from seasoned captains and crew members who are always ready for a conversation.

Stemless wine glasses

We know what you’re thinking, but yes, this is a wine glass, in so much that the actual receptacle for storing wine is shaped in the exact way in which normal wine glasses are shaped. Even with a competent gyroscopic stabiliser, a sudden rogue wave can always make a mess. These stemless glasses are made with a heavier base, and in the event they do go topsy-turvy, at least they won’t break as they are made of BPA-free plastic.

Nautical-themed wine stoppers

What do you do when 2 bottles of wine are too much but 1 too little? Just stop the second one off with a wine stopper that has a nautical design. It’s not over the top at all.

Ship’s Log Book

A Ship’s Log Book will add a touch of occasion to the cockpit of any yacht, especially in today’s increasingly paperless world. This will help the Captain easily track visitors, excursions, and even maintenance of the vessel. There are many out there, from formal to playful ones, but we recommend finding one that has room to include photos in the Log.

Boating multitool

A multitool designed specifically for boating is a handy little accessory to have on board that will solve many problems. This review by Yachting Monthly is a remarkably good one, with tests conducted in single and double-handed format, and with and without gloves.

Marine monocular

A binocular would work just as well for this gift idea, but space is often limited on a boat, and so we suggest a monocular instead. Modern monoculars are no longer the cheap alternative to their bifocal siblings, but rather have the same level of magnification and build. For marine applications, find one that has fogproofing, which means that the optics are filled with nitrogen to expel all normal air to prevent them from fogging up in cold air, and waterproofing, which is of course a feature that is particularly good to have on a boat.

Boat erasers

They are called boat erasers, or boat scuff erasers, and while they may not be the sexiest gift, a boater who loves their vessel will appreciate the heck out of this gift. The affected surface need only be moistened with water to activate the eraser, and no harsh chemicals are used either, making these things safe to use on every surface.

Quick drying towels

Another highly handy gift are quick drying towels. On a day with many water activities, having an ultra-absorbent, microfiber towel dry and ready-to-use all the time is a wonderful feeling – anyone who has ever used a clammy and damp cloth throughout the day will attest to this. What’s more, microfiber towels are also usually sand-proof, which makes them excellent companions on a beach as well.

Books

For boaters who are also bookworms, there are no better gifts than actual paperbacks. There’s something about having physical books in a space that just warms up the room, and we all know that a coffee table is never complete without a coffee table book. We recommend ‘438 Days: An Extraordinary True Story of Survival at Sea’ for anyone who has not read this extraordinary true story of a fisherman who survived for 14 months out at sea, and ‘Riva in the Movie by Riva’, a coffee table book that offers never-before-seen shots of Riva’s beautiful boats across 60 years of silver-screen-stardom.
