Going past the 1-million-ringgit mark will reveal some remarkable vessels that should not be disregarded

We’re going to level with you – yachts lose around 20% of their value within the first year of their ownership, and almost 30% after 5 years. These are boats that are kept in great condition too. This is a rough generalisation, and some brands do retain value better than others. For those who want to avoid the initial depreciation, surfing the preowned market is certainly the way to. Here are 5 such yachts in excellent shape and even better renown.

Beneteau Monte Carlo 47 – EUR450,000 (RM2,135,000)

Boaters who are familiar with the standard yachting experience will immediately be struck by the volume of the MC47 upon climbing on board. The shipyard achieved this by building upwards, so every interior space of the vessel has impressive headroom. This example was launched in 2011, features twin Volvo IPS600 drives and 2 cabins. And after considering her generous flying bridge – which the owner has fitted with a bimini top – her price tag of just north of 2 million ringgit is remarkable value.

Prestige 450 – USD475,000 (RM1,998,000)

Prestige’s excellent range of boats can also be had in a compact 45-foot form, which is inspired by the yard’s larger, and more impressive, yachts. In fact, one of the best parts of buying a new Prestige is that it comes with a VesselVanguard subscription that tracks yacht maintenance, so buying a used Prestige will give a similar peace of mind. This Prestige 450 comes with twin Volvo IPS500 engines, 2 cabins, a tender, and of course, a flying bridge as well.

Azimut Magellano 43- USD450,000 (RM1,893,000)

The Magellano 43 is built for comfortable long-distance cruising for a small family, thanks to its semi-displacement hull and 3 cabin layout. The profile of the yacht is less sleek thanks to the hull, but roomier as well due to this. This hull is not a traditional semi-displacement design either, as designers managed to advance on the standard design to enable the yacht to also cruise efficiently. This is a yacht for boaters with serious exploration aspirations, but will perform just as when hosting guests in her many social areas.

Lagoon 42 – USD520,000 (RM2,187,000)

Lagoon is one of the best catamaran builders today, and the inherent nature of cats makes them naturally suited to wind propulsion. This L42 comes upgraded with her steering, coachroof, and mast moved further aft, as well as a high-aspect mainsail, self-tacking jib, and large foresails. Complementing the natural propulsion are twin Yanmar diesels with 57 hp each. Three cabins and 3 heads are found in her hulls, and the asking price includes a tender with automated steering.

Leopard 43 PC – USD499,000 (RM2,099,000)

From a fantastic sailing cat, to a fully-powered one that is also from another great catamaran builder; the 43PC is the second powered cat from the builder, but retained all the hallmarks of a Leopard. These yachts are superbly constructed and designed, with great spaces for relaxing and socialising. Her hulls are designed to be narrower to help the vessel reach 23 knots while maintaining great efficiency. 3 cabins can be found below decks, with the owner’s cabin taking up the entirety of the starboard hull and featuring a private head a well as a large separate shower compartment.

Let’s close

A budget of 2 million ringgit can net you a fantastic boat on the preowned market, but as always, all due diligence must be performed on a used vessel. We have some great pointers here, as well as a newly updated list of preowned boats across the price range for further reference. Happy hunting.
