The second powercat in the builders’ new generation is coming in less than a year, and it can be yours.

The superb Leopard 53 Powercat was first unveiled to the world early in 2020, and she is the flagship for a new generation of powered catamarans from the South African builder. Following her success, Leopard Catamarans have now unveiled the 46 Powercat, the second in this new generation, and she is up for sale to be delivered in April 2022. Pen Marine is an official dealer for Leopard’s excellent cats, and here’s what we think you should know about this new multihull from the yard.

Design

The lineage of the 46PC is obvious, and in terms of design she is closely related to the 53PC. Her lines are clean and simple. There’s a long stretch of glazing on each side that allows for different portlight opening configurations, and the coachroof windows are tall. They are made of toughened glass for additional security. Leopard also included a forward cockpit door, just like in her larger brother.

A hardtop keeps occupants cool in the shade on the large flybridge.

The Leopard 46PC has an expansive flybridge that is covered by a composite-moulded hardtop, which is essential in hot climates like ours. The helm station here features bench-seating, while the portside of the area is one long unbroken social area that has a large aft sunpad, a dining area with sofas, as well as a forward sofa. Below this space is an area for alfresco dining, which is aft of the cockpit.

Interior

An expansive cockpit features an aft galley, and a comfortable forward saloon.

The cockpit features two main spaces. Aft is a galley, and there is a forward saloon with facing sofas. Where she differs from her larger sibling are new soft furnishings for the settees, a matte and beige finish on the galley lockers, gloss white countertops, and the galley worktop now has integrated splashbacks. Illumination has been changed to a softer, indirect lighting, which really elevates the comfort of the interior.

Counter space is generous at the galley, along with ample storage space.

The new galley serving area at starboard is outfitted with storage lockers for cutlery, crockery, and food. There is also an incorporated drinks locker, as well as additional mounting points for an icemaker or wine cooler under the counter. Chefs and cooks will not want for preparation space here, as the counters are large.

Natural light is abundant, and soft, indirect LED lights increase the comfort in the cockpit.

A lot of thought has been given to interior lighting too. The main cockpit area uses continuous LED strips for uniform, unbroken illumination that is hidden behind plemets. In areas designed for specific tasks, like the galley, there are additional recessed LED spotlights. The overall temperature of the illumination is also kept consistent so the overall ambience is uniform.

Accommodations

Space is not a commodity in the owner’s stateroom.

The new Leopard 46 Powercat is available in 3 or 4 stateroom layout. With the former, the owner’s suite is to port and features a large aft bed, a walk-in closet, a double vanity and a forward bathroom. Every room has its own ensuite too.

The VIP berths in the 4-room layout has an island berth, and a sky-window adds natural lighting to the space.

There are four bathrooms for the layout with 4 staterooms. Here the two VIP guest cabins are forward with window-facing island berths. As for the other two aft cabins, they have beds that face forward. All accommodations have options for furnishing and finishing too.

Engine room redesigned

The engine room is now completely sealed off from all living spaces, and is only accessible via a large deck hatch that has a step ladder to aid entry. Due to its isolation, engine noise is controlled and combustion odours are kept away successfully. All major systems are housed here, to help with servicing.
