Here are some boats we think you’ll love for shorter excursions

Long, extended holidays at sea are a dream holiday for many of us. However, this luxury can only be afforded once or twice a year as commitments aplenty keep us on the ground. It’s no surprise, then, that for many of us our jaunts out to sea are quick ones that only take a day or two.

Here are a few new boats in our range that we think you’ll really enjoy for just such trips.

PERSHING 5X

At a length of 54 feet, the Pershing 5X has ample performance to go with her fighter-jet looks. She will hit a top speed of 42 knots if specified with the twin CAT 12.9 marine engine, and is good for a range of 280 nautical miles.

For shorter trips, this speedy yacht will get you there quick and in style. She has two decks – the main deck is welcoming and bright, while the lower deck is elegantly appointed for a comfortable rest should you want to stay out at sea for a night or two.

RIVA DOLCERIVA

Futuristic design meets legendary heritage in the 48-feet Dolceriva. This handsome thoroughbred with svelte proportions hides a cabin below with more than enough headroom for a comfortable time on board, while the woodwork on the main deck is a work of art in itself.

Performance comes from a pair of Volvo D13 engines with 1000hp each, but you also have a smaller engine as an option and both are good for around 200 nautical miles. The Dolceriva is a luxury yacht that you will unquestionably enjoy piloting, and at the same time proudly be seen in.

GRANDBANKS EASTBAY44

The classic, clean lines of the Eastbay44 speaks not of speed, but of comfortable cruising and impeccable craftsmanship. A beautifully lustrous brown teak interior commands instant attention when guests step in, while its traditional deep-v hull makes her a luxurious, comfortable cruiser.

The EB44 is an ideal family yacht, and will fit 6 for overnight lodging while more are easily accomodated on her wide, airy salon for day trips. Her twin Volvo IPS600 marine engines can take the yacht past 500 nautical miles easily at a gentlemanly speed of 20 knots, making her great for longer voyages as well.

LEOPARD 40

Catamarans are famous for their stability at sea, and as sailboats their heels are much lower than a traditional sailboat too, further adding to their comfort. With that in mind, the Leopard 40 is the perfect yacht for sailors who prioritise a pleasant ride above all else. What’s more, her high deck affords a wide angle of view, which is again unlike traditional sailboats, allowing for unimpeded views across the horizon.

There’s also a generous amount of interior space, and more guests means more laughs. She can be customised with 3 or 4 cabins depending on your preference, and also features a pair of 29hp engines for low speed manoeuvres.

JEANNEAU SUN ODYSSEY 410

A coastal cruiser with the ability for shorter offshore adventures, Jeanneau’s Sun Odyssey 410 has hints of racing sailboats in her design, but she is actually well-mannered and easy to sail. Twin rudders give her greater stability at sea and also increases responsiveness, making her remarkably enjoyable to helm.

What’s more, the Sun Odyssey 410’s main draw is her generous, sociable cockpit, and as her main controls are at the helm, she can be sailed shorthanded. This means guests can relax on the trip or actively take part in sailing should they choose to.

But let’s say you’re not an avid boater yet, and are new to the idea of heading out to sea for the weekend. A new boat may be too daunting an entry into this world. Here are a few preowned boats available now to test the waters.

SUN RUNNER 3700SE

Fitting nicely into the sports cruiser category, the Sun Runner 3700SE brings performance, volume and comfort in a neat 37-foot package. The SE variant has an open cockpit, which makes it particularly suited as a platform for fishing activities.

Head belowdecks, and you’ll find a fully furnished cabin and galley. This particular model has two queenside beds, air conditioning, and other amenities too like a fridge and microwave. It is currently berthed at Penang Island, and is available for easy viewing.

ANTARES 44i

Another cat for this list is the Antares 44i. Small families will fit right in with her 3 cabins, and she can also be handled by a solo watchkeeper as her controls are all situated at the helm.

This particular 44i has additional peripherals installed as well like solar panels, safety gear, Furuno electronics, a solar-powered watermaker and a Brownie Hookah system for avid snorkellers and divers. She is also berthed at Penang Island.

In closing, we just want to say that short excursions are plenty enjoyable too. Sometimes they are just cathartic enough to scratch that itch until the next big adventure, and sometimes they are the adventure.
