Here’s everything and more, with new pictures and details on the latest multihull from Leopard

The line-up of excellent powered catamarans from South African shipyard Leopard Catamarans continues to grow. Late in August this year, the yard confirmed that a new Powercat was on the way, and finally there are actual pictures and more details available for interested buyers. What’s more, the new Leopoard 46 Powercat is close to completion already, with the first Asian unit scheduled for arrival in April 2022. Here’s all you need to know about the latest multihull from Leopard.

Design Highlights

Just like the award-winning Leopard 53 PC, the Leopard 46 PC is a breakaway from the styling of previous Leopards. It is now a “more powerboat-oriented style”, but still features the uncomplicated, clean lines that Leopard is well-known for. A single stroke of glazing stretches across both hulls – so pleasing to the eye we must say – which features portlights that can be opened in different configurations.

The main saloon and helm station are surrounded by vertical, flat glass that is toughened for safety and specially designed for clarity. This flat glass design also enables a great feature that is familiar to the yard: the forward double door that leads to the fore social area.

A single set of stairs from the rear dining area will bring boaters up to another highlight social area of the Leopard 46 PC, the flying bridge. This large area is protected from sun and rain via a hardtop roof. Boaters will find a helm station and wet bar to starboard, while port is a long connected social area with a dinette and a large sunpad just aft.

Interior Attractions

Inside the main saloon, facing sofas gives boaters a cozy space to relax, and Leopard’s designers have finished the saloon in a combination of grey, white and beige for a warm, comfortable ambience. To further accentuate this new focus on comfort, lighting was redesigned towards softer, indirect lights as well. Moreover, no detail was overlooked, as the temperature of the LED lights is now kept consistent throughout the boat, so every interior space flows nicely into one another.

At the aft end of the main saloon is the “galley serving area” with various clever features built-in to serve the dining area at the rear of the main deck. There are storage lockers here for cutlery and crockery, as well as an incorporated drinks locker. Additionally, there is a mounting space for an undercounter icemaker or wine cooler, and the counter itself is a large area for food prep that really highlights how small counters in similarly-sized single-hulled boats are.

Inside the hulls, owners can now specify three, or four cabins. We recommend the former, because then the size of the accommodations and accompanying luxuries can follow closely the design on the main deck. With this layout, the owner’s suite boasts a significant walk-in closet, desk, and double vanity, while the guest cabins are fitted with island berths and en-suite heads. Just like the main deck, lighting below is soft and cozy, while wood accents are added to really elevate the atmosphere here.

Finally, the engine rooms in the Leopard 46 PC are completely sealed off from all living spaces, so odours are eliminated entirely while noise is substantially reduced. The engine rooms can only be accessed via a step ladder at the main deck, but once inside there is good access to the engines and its accompanying systems.

Catamarans are veritable floating homes out at sea due to all the real estate they provide.
