2021 could be your best yachting year yet

Just like pre-owned automobiles, pre-owned yachts offer fantastic value for the amount of money spent. Europe and the Americas have always had a bigger affinity towards yachting – you can say it’s in their blood – but more and more people in Asia Pacific are also taking to the seas. With more movement in boat ownership, pre-owned yachts are also easier to come by, and as we usually do at the end of every month, we try to summarise these exciting yachts because we know you’ll definitely want to know about them.

Monterey 302 – USD 60,000

Starting off with a 30-footer, this particular vessel is located right here in Penang Island. She was first launched in 2003, and interestingly, has had a full enclosure fitted over the cockpit. This is a great upgrade especially in our climate which rains all year round. This enclosure can also be easily removed if necessary.

Two Volvo engines of 270 hp each can propel her to a comfortable cruising speed of 20 knots. Finally, a single cabin amidships features double berths and an adjacent changing space behind a privacy door. All in all, she is a great craft for coastal cruising and a fantastic way to dip your toes into yachting waters.

Bayliner 38 Flybridge – USD 109,550

What beautiful proportions. This 36-footer cruiser from Thailand is simply a pleasure to behold. Her owner kept her meticulously cared for as well with a full time crew, so don’t let her age worry you. She hides two cabins in her svelte silhouette, and has also been fitted with a bimini to keep the worst of the tropical sun at bay. For added comfort, both the cabins and salon are air-conditioned.

Propulsion comes from a pair of Cummins engines worth 260 hp each, and so she will hit 20 knots easily. Her size (and price) makes her another great contender for those new to yachting.

Princess 42 – TBH 15,000,000

A regal craft from a renowned shipyard, her LOA is actually 44’ despite the number in her name. A simple flybridge layout gives ample room for guests, and a bimini here keeps all in the shade. She has two cabins – a forward cabin being the master, and a starboard cabin with twin beds. Crafts at this size are great for small families, as you can see with her spaciousness and accommodation.

Due to their demand and appeal, yachts from Princess have always had a more stable market value, so there is no conflict between heart and mind in the purchasing of this yacht. She is currently docked in Pattaya.

Ferretti Yachts 480 – MYR 1,300,000

Her profiles simply oozes timeless sophistication. This particular Ferretti Yachts 480 was launched in 2003, but her unmistakably Italian design has not aged a day. For added peace of mind, she has been refreshed in 2018 with new anti-fouling, and a rebalancing of her prop and shaft, to name a few.

She has three staterooms in total – two with twin berths, and an owner’s room. This means that 6 people can be accommodated comfortably, which is impressive in a boat of 48’. What’s more, twin MAN engines of 630 hp each give her performance that sets her apart from other cruisers in her size. Prospective viewers can see her at Langkawi Island.

Pershing 46 – USD 280,500

Performance is the heart of every Pershing. A pair of MAN engines making 800 hp each gives an experience at sea unlike any other, but without eschewing luxuries. In her 50’ LOA hides 3 cabins so families can get to places they want very, very quickly.

Forwards is a large sunpad, while her cockpit is large and opens up to another large lounging area aft of the yacht. As vessels go, a pre-owned Pershing at this price is a rare and wonderful find, so don’t let her age dissuade you. She is currently docked in the Hong Kong.
