The yard’s smallest luxury flybridge is large where it really counts

Italian ship builder Ferretti is well known for creating luxurious yachts with flying bridges. The Ferretti Yachts 450, or FY450, is the smallest craft in their fleet that first hit the water in 2016, and fans of the yard will know that this particular yacht is no longer listed on their website. Ferretti does not make a yacht in this length anymore, and since larger boats are almost always more expensive, the FY450 can be had at a lower price than the Ferretti Yachts 500, but with the same excellent quality and modern design we know and love from the Italian yard. What’s more, this yacht is available for immediate delivery.

Here are some of the basic specifications for the FY450 Hull 21
LOA : 14.2 m / 46.6 ft
Max beam : 4.3 m / 14.1 ft
Engines : 2 x Cummins QSB 6.7 with 500 hp each
Transmission : V drive
Max speed : 31 knots
Cruising speed : 27 knots
Range : 230 NM at cruising speed
People on board : 12
Cabins : 3

Surprising levels of accommodation

For enthusiasts who are more familiar with boats, we know that boats have ‘segments’, just like cars. Thus, we spontaneously know that a yacht of 40 feet will have this-and-that feature, and a yacht of 50 feet will have this much room. However, the FY450 astounds in the way that she has more than the usual expected room, especially below decks.

On the main decks, from aft to fore, are a swim platform (hydraulic lift optional), with port stairs leading up to an intimate al fresco dining area. This open space is sheltered by the flying bridge above, and boaters will then move into the main saloon. This space houses a galley, ample sofas for seating, and a helm station, as well as the stairs that lead below. Natural lighting from the large windows lends to the feeling of airiness, and this is further accentuated by a high ceiling. As for the lounge at the nose of the yacht, it is accessed via walkways on both sides of the saloon.

If the main deck didn’t already impress, the lower decks will definitely do so. Unlike most vessels her size, she has a large full-beam master cabin that features a central double bed with flanking sofas and innumerable storage. An en suite bathroom is available with a separate head as well. The fore guest suite is housed within the nose of the yacht in a traditional V-layout, with its own en suite bathroom, and the final suite is located at starboard. Just like the main deck, head room here astounds as well.

The stairs at the aft dining area will lead boaters to the best area of the FY450: her flying bridge. Here is a central table, a bar cabinet astern, and a helm station. For hotter climes like ours, boaters can ask for a bimini to keep the worst of the sun away.

Every space is luxuriously and excellently furnished without being overdone for an overall elegant and tasteful ambience.

A delight to pilot

Sea trials have shown the FY450 to have excellent mannerisms. There’s no pure adrenaline in the way she drives, and it is not expected of course, but there’s no feeling of clumsiness in the way she moves. Turns are confident with minimal heel angles, and the transition from displacement to surfing is barely perceptible. There’s no doubt in our mind that she is made for cruising.

It goes without saying that taking the wheel at the flybridge is the best way to enjoy the yacht, but it is no less so on the main deck. The helm here offers excellent all-round views due to the effusive use of glass, and the view back is not too bad either due to the large glass doors that lead to the rear of the yacht.

Highly recommended optional extras

This being a boat that is mostly complete, deep customisation – like the number of cabins – is not available. However, Ferretti Yachts have an extensive list of optional extras, and we will highly recommend getting these.

Air-conditioning (tropical) for the saloon and cabins
Water intake: shore fresh water intake
Blackout roll in cabins
Smoke separator for generators
Gyro stabiliser
Autopilot SIMRAD with control unit
Radar SIMRAD at the main helm

Let’s end

As mentioned above, the Ferretti Yachts 450 is no longer listed on the shipyard’s website, which means that Hull Number 21 may be one of the last ones of the model. It is simply unsurpassed in its class and with no lengthy waiting period for the yacht, this opportunity is a rare one indeed. Get in touch with us to know more.
