Here is a selection of boats in three different pricing segments.

With the proper TLC, yachts can last a long, long time. It goes without saying that when shopping for a used vessel, the younger the better but yachts that are older are also worth considering. It’s more important that they are cared for properly, and it is not unusual to find yachts of a decade or more on the used market. Lately, many interesting vessels have appeared on our radar, and here we have separated them into three categories: RM1 million, RM1.5 million, and RM2 million.

For RM1 million, there are 3 great options.

Riviera 39  |  USD238,000  |  RM1,003,170

A look at her and you know the Riviera 39 is made for fun. The yard still makes the 39, which is a testament to the evergreen appeal of the yacht, albeit with updated touches here and there. She was launched in 1998, but the starboard engine was replaced in 2016, and the port compatriot was given a top service at the same time. Electronics were replaced around that time too, so she’s modern where is counts. She has two cabins, and a saloon/galley combination space, but more importantly she has been made for fishing. She already has two live bait tanks (one for bait and one for catch), plenty of storage for equipment and even a -40o freezer for snap freezing. She’s also anchored nearby in Singapore.

Grand Banks Eastbay 40  |  USD240,000   |  RM1,011,600

Timeless elegance is the word that captures the spirit of Grand Banks. The GB40 Eastbay features meticulous craftsmanship and modern construction, but retains the much-loved silhouette of boats from another golden era. The yard is now located in Johor, Malaysia, so we have a lot of familiarity (and fondness, we admit) for the marque. The interior is laid out beautifully in teak with a satin finish that has stood the test of time. She has two cabins and two heads, and the owner has also fitted her with solar panels. Right now, she’s berthed in Phuket, and she was first launched In 1996.

Fairline 43  |  THB7,000,000  |  RM900,050

Here’s a yacht with a flying bridge for a great price. This Fairline 43 was made in 2002, and is currently anchored in Phuket. She is quite pretty to look at, isn’t she? Even so, she’s not just a pretty face. Her saloon is a delightful mix of leather and cherry wood – the latter will still impress with its lustrous sheen. She has two cabins: the owner’s stateroom features a king-sized double bed, en suite head with shower and basin, and a vacuum flush electric toilet. The guest room has 2 single beds, with its own head, shower, basin, and another electric flush toilet. Most of the time will be spent up above, however, in the flybridge, where the table and seating can also be converted into a double berth for a night under the stars.

Stretch your budget a little more to RM1.5 million and you’ll get these 3.

Meridian 391 Sedan  |  SGD398,000  |  RM1,238,790

She is sized like the Fairline above, but her relative young age commands a higher price. Large side windows and sleek character lines are the hallmark of a Meridian so she is instantly recognisable on water. She is known to have a large interior volume, which makes her feel like a larger boat. Accommodations come in the form of 2 cabins, and the saloon chairs can also double as a sofa bed. Of course, users will spend most of their time up on the flying bridge, and there is a social space up here too. She was made in 2009, and is currently anchored in Singapore.

Riviera 47  |  THB13,400,000  |  RM1,723,269

We’ve featured the Riviera 47 before in another article about preowned yachts. She’s still available, and just like her smaller sibling above, she has sport fishing aspirations. However, as she is a larger vessel, she excels in other pleasurable aspects too. The flybridge features ample seating, a fridge and a sink, as well as a table for dining. Three cabins mean more guests on board for a weekend with you, and she also comes with a tender for quick shore trips. She is berthed in Pattaya, and was made in 2004.

Sea Ray 470 Sundancer  |  USD340,000  |  RM1,433,100

She’s a beautiful cruiser that is currently berthed right here with us in Penang and made in the USA in 2004. Since then, she’s made this region her home, and have travelled to Phuket and Singapore too, which is a testimony to the confidence she inspires. These longer trips are made easier with her two cabins. The owner’s suite is located forward, and features a double bed and TV, while the other has two single beds that can be combined. The head and shower are separated for the owner’s suite as well. Her current owner has installed a fridge for the cockpit, and just aft at the social space a BBQ pit has also been installed.

Let’s go all the way to RM2 million.

Prestige 450  |  USD475,000  |  RM2,002,125

Prestige is a sister brand of Jeanneau, and so all the engineering know how and the tasteful ergonomic touches are found here too. The yard really excels at thinking about what makes a boaters life better on board. Her centrally-located galley easily services the saloon and the aft social space. Her owner’s cabin has its own private stairway for optimum privacy, and she has another cabin as well for guests. She’s currently in Phuket, and first hit the water in 2014.

Beneteau Monte Carlo 47  |  EUR450,000  |  RM2,227,704

Jeanneau and Prestige are both brands (two of many, actually), under the Beneteau Group. At the heart of the group is Beneteau, and yachts with this badge are different, with its own particular elegance and elevated luxury. The Monte Carlo 47 has a flybridge that features all around seating so no one is left out, and the saloon has been kept spacious without the inclusion of a galley here. It’s just a few steps down to it however, so it’s not out of the way, and since it is a standalone space it is also larger. Two cabins are available on the MC47, with a voluminous owner’s room, and a generous guest cabin. She is berthed in Phuket, and was made 10 years ago in 2011.

Azimut Magellano 43  |  USD450,000  |  RM1,896,750

Azimut makes very interesting yachts, with silhouettes and profiles that are not ‘the norm’. This 2014 Magellano 43 astounds especially in one area: space. From the sunpad, to the swim platform, the obvious expanse of useable space is remarkable. Headroom is similarly outstanding as well. A large owner’s suite is located at her nose with a double bed. Another cabin features two single beds, and the final a single bed. The flybridge is not as well spaced as the others, but that’s because there is a space at the rear that is left empty so it can accommodate toys or even a tender. She is currently in the Maldives.
