Looking for a boat with a lot of room? Here are 5 preowned catamarans that you need to check out

A catamaran is a boat with two hulls. Unlike a more traditional monohull, this means the deck can be laid out across a wider space, giving boaters more useable space. Individually, the hulls are not as large as a single monohull, and rooms below decks are smaller. However, because there are two of them, a catamaran will usually have more rooms and baths or heads when compared to a monohull of similar length. What’s more, a cat is more stable than its counterpart, again a natural result of having two hulls, which boaters in areas with stronger waves, or blue-water explorers, will appreciate. We have listed here 5 preowned catamarans that offer greater value, of course, than one that is brand new.

Leopard 51 Powercat    |    EUR539,000

Leopard’s catamarans are known worldwide for their space, performance, and blue-water cruising capabilities. In fact, new cats are hand-delivered to owners all around the world, which is a testament to the yard’s belief in their boats. The 51PC is a boat of 51 feet, with a pair of twin Yanmar engines making 350 hp. She is moored nearby at Phuket and has a 4 cabin + 4 head configuration. Additionally, a tender comes with the purchase of the boat.

Sunreef 62    |    USD699,000

Poland-based shipyard Sunreef is a relative newcomer into the world of boats. It’s not a bad thing, though. They are unfettered by tradition and are able to create cats that are luxuriously contemporary that are no less seaworthy. This Sunreef 62 has Hyde sails that were installed in 2016, with a total area of 118 m2, and also features 2 Yanmar engines that are good for 125 hp. Her hull is made from Sealium, an aluminium alloy that is strong, light, and highly durable. What’s more, sailing and engine controls are centralized, making short-handed sailing a breeze.

Leopard 43 Powercat    |    USD700,000

All the credentials of her larger sibling applies to this Leopard 43 PC too, though she is a smaller cat at 42 feet. She is powered by twin Yanmars with 320 hp, and has a 3 cabin, 2 head layout. She is similarly anchored at Phuket, and so interested buyers can view them both at the same time. That is, if travel restrictions allow. She is also slightly more expensive than her larger sibling, because she is a younger model.

Lagoon 50    |    EUR980,000

She won Sail Magazine’s award for Best Cruising Multihull in the 40-50 feet category in 2019, which speaks volumes of her talents. In fact, what impressed testers was how the Lagoon 50 was not an incremental improvement on the catamaran formula, but a completely new design from a blank sheet of paper. They explain eloquently why here. This particular cat hit the sea on 2018, and is currently moored in Phuket as well. She has a 3 cabin, 4 head configuration.

Lagoon 630 MY    |    USD1,700,000

The Lagoon 630 MY was the flagship of the yard, and as such was lavished with attention and features that befitted such a boat. There are three stations to helm the cat – two on the flybridge and one in the saloon. There are 4 cabins, 4 heads, and she also features the twin Volvo engines that are good for 300 hp, which were upgraded from 240 hp engines. What’s more, this cat was never chartered, has a recent survey, features  a full service record, and has been maintained fastidiously by a professional captain. Interested buyers will be able to view her in Pattaya.

Pleasure boating is ultimately about, well, pleasure. Catamarans, with their laid-back nature, are perfect for that. Families can relax on board without intruding into each other’s personal spaces, choppy waters are handled with aplomb, and the extra storage for water, fuel, and necessities enable boaters to explore further and longer. If this list of cats does not meet your requirements, you may find what you need on our complete list of preowned boats.
