Let’s elevate a restful weekend to a blissful one

Here is another list of toys and gadgets that we think will definitely heighten another aspect of the boating experience. More often than not, a day or weekend out at sea is full of excitement and fun, but it may leave you drained. These eight items are for those times on board when doing nothing is the goal – a proper relaxing weekend, if you will. If you’re looking for more exciting diversions, check out this other article, but if kicking back is your goal, read on.

Floating foam mats

Unlike inflatable pads, there’s not faffing about with pumps on these mats. All you need to do is to unroll it and throw it on the sea for a few floaty hours on the water. You can even get larger ones that can fit a few people if lounging with company is preferred.

Fresh coffee

What’s better than watching a sun rise from your own yacht? Watching this wondrous spectacle with an equally wonderful cup of freshly made coffee. Sure, you can make instant coffee or use an instant coffee machine, but nothing beats the sensory, almost religious, experience of grinding fresh coffee beans and making a fresh cup. It doesn’t take a whole cupboard of tools either. For espresso-based drinks, a simple machine like the Breville Bambino Plus will pull great espresso shots, and it also has a steam wand to create lattes. There are also other less strenuous ways to make coffee too, like using a French press or a pourover kit.

Portable grill

Weekender yachts will almost always come with a galley for simple food prep, and larger vessels will also have a barbeque pit. There’s nothing quite like firing up the grill and cracking open a cold one while watching the day turn to night on your boat. Bring a portable barbeque grill with you and even a smaller yacht can experience this. Some can be mounted securely onto the railing, but there are also options for standalone grills.

Noise-cancelling headphones

What should you do if you want a few precious moments all to yourself on a boat? You pop a pair of headphones with active noise cancelling technology and just disappear for a while. Experts everywhere agree that Sony’s WH-1000XM4 are the best pair on the market right now.

Music everywhere

No speakers on board? No problem. Get a Bluetooth speaker, but not just any will do. You need one that is water and dust proof, lightweight, and makes a great sound. Sonos’ Roam fits every criteria. You’ll be able to set the mood for a candlelight dinner, or get the party going on board with this little firecracker.

Television? Work of art? Why not both.

You know what’s coming, don’t you? Samsung’s The Frame will disappear into the room as an elegant art piece when not in use, and awaken as a 4K QLED TV when you need it. A space with it will definitely help you relax, whether you’re reading a book or watching movie on its crisp display.

Beautiful sound

For a television as elegant as The Frame, you’ll need an equally beautiful sound system. A full surround sound system is an option, but space on a yacht is a commodity. An excellent soundbar, like the Senheiser Ambeo, is a perfect minimalist solution.

I can show you the world

It’s the best way to sight see without leaving the boat! Check out this video of a pod of dolphins playing with a pair of whales, filmed by a drone of course. Watercrafts are usually discouraged from getting too close to wildlife, so using a drone is a great way to observe them in with minimal interference.

With the world still in the grip of travel restrictions, having a relaxing weekend at sea may be the only way to have a holiday for a while. Make that time count and bring some of these things along with you!
