Start your journey with these amazing value-for-money yachts

The preowned page on our website is constantly updated with the latest yachts that turn up on the preowned market. This month, a good spread of yachts with differing talents and sizes have appeared for consideration, the most affordable of which starts at just RM300k.

Hanse 315   EUR59,000   |   RM297,000

The 315 is the smallest offering from the German shipyard. She is sized appealingly at 31 feet, and is an accomplished sailor with great characteristics, thanks to a few key design decisions. Her hull is solidly hand-laid, while the outer skin is laminate saturated with vinylester for better protection. The deck is cored with balsa wood to lower her centre of gravity, and she features Elvstrom FCL (Fast Cruising Laminate) sails. What’s more, short-handed sailing is easily accomplished as well, as she comes with a self-tacking jib.

Her charm continues with a manually controlled drop-down transom that extends the cockpit and doubles as a swim platform at anchor. She’s fairly simple below decks too, with 2 cabins and a shared head.  At this size, price, and features, she may just be the one to bring you into the fascinating world of sailing.

Bavaria 36   USD90,000   |   RM372,000

It’s rare for a yacht of her size to come with three double cabins. Bavaria Yachtbau is another shipyard in Germany that has been building quality boats since 1978. The expanse of space is the first thing to notice when stepping aboard the 36, along with her unpretentious design. Sailors will appreciate her in-mast furling main, while guests will do the same with the drop-down transom.

The 36 is described as beamy, so there’s little surprise three double cabins available, along with a roomy saloon and galley that are superbly lit by many portlights and overhead hatches. Even at 36 feet, a great sailboat with great accommodations can be had.

Jeanneau Sun Oddysey 409   EUR85,000   |   RM428,000

The SO 409 won Sail Magazine’s 2011 European Yacht of the Year in the Family Cruisers category. She is unquestionably talented, then. Her sleek hull is made fully of hand-laid fiberglass, finished with a protective coat and ISO gelcoat. For a mass-production cruiser, she has an above average finish, as we have come to expect of boats from Jeanneau. Like the other previous two boats on this list, she too has a fold-down transom, and her size of 40 feet avails her a cockpit table.

This particular example has 3 cabins, and of special interest is the fold-over dinette table in the saloon that can be quickly lowered to convert the wrap-around settee into a double berth. Her versatility and comfort is undoubtedly the key reasons for her winning that coveted title.

Azimut 43S   EUR225,000   |   RM1,134,000

This shipyard is known for slick exteriors and interiors that is best described as restrained contemporary. The S range of boats from Azimut are some of the best they make, and it shows in the 43S. You’ll see the signature raked aft section of the hardtop, along with windows reminiscent of sharks fins, that make her so visually arresting.

Her interior is as compelling. All living spaces are off the usual high quality, and this example has 2 cabins with dedicated heads. Materials like wood and steel come together beautifully in the galley to elevate this area, a testament to the yard’s attention to all areas of the ship too. Just over a million ringgit will get you a boat from one of the best known brands in the world.

Pershing 58   USD980,000   |   RM4,056,000

She’s a hardtop with a penchant for speed. The 58 is no longer in production by the Italian shipyard, and you can see the evolution from this vessel to the current ones in production. Her design is aging gracefully, and all the hallmarks of the brand as we know it today – a semi-enclosed saloon, powerful engines, swooping side windows – can be seen on the 58 as well.

She features 3 cabins with 3 heads and will be able to accommodate up to 14 people on board at once. Her lines do a great job at hiding her size, and she must be viewed in person to really appreciate her 59-foot LOA.

Sunseeker Manhattan 63    GBP878,000    |   RM5,147,000

We arrive at the most expensive yacht on our list, and it is big money for a lot of boat. Motorboat and Yachting (MBY) said it best:

“It just comes together so well, from the flawless GRP work and solid stainless steel to the fact that when you pad around on the teak saloon not a single squeak or rattle announces itself underfoot. All the doors shut with a satisfying clunk and soft-close drawers packed with fiddles glide silently into place in the galley.”

To put it mildly, she’s well put together. Powering the big girl is a pair of MAN V12s, each with 1000hp too, and during their test, MBY found the engines to be remarkably efficient.
