Here are a triplet of yachts we think you should know
As those who have done so before can ascertain, owning a boat is not as unattainable as it seems. Superyachts, megayachts, and hyperyachts aside, those who dream of spending time with the sea can do so at a reasonable cost and this is especially true when buyers start looking at preowned boats.
These crafts will – and do – live a long life when given proper care and maintenance. Buyers can only reliably know the history of a yacht through trusted brokers, who have established contacts throughout the industry. We will know a yachts story, its repairs, its refurbishments, and its travel history, so we highly encourage interested buyers to go through trusted brokers.
Enough preamble then, let’s begin. Here are three preowned yachts, at three different sizes and prices, that we have selected for your consideration.
We start this trio with something special. The Silverton 42 Convertible is a 2-in-1 cruiser-cum-fishboat which features a commode and vanity separated from the shower stall. Many convertibles claim this, true, but most of them are over 50’ LOA. In a yacht of this size – 44’ – it means extra useability as the head and shower can be used at the same time.
As a fishing boat, she may not be fully ‘competition spec’, but the 42 is an able weekend angler. She already has a rodlocker in the salon overhead, but the addition of a Fish Pack adds extra amenities like a livewell, tackle locker, fighting chair plate, rod holders and more.
Silverton has made her a capable cruiser as well. Her flybridge is a great place to pilot, and for guests a vantage to simply take it all in. In place of a space-saving ladder up to bridge are moulded steps for added mobility.
This 52-footer was first commissioned in the UK in 2007. Don’t let the stipulated age turn you away, her engine has only registered under 250 hours as of March 2015. She has been beautifully maintained.
The T52 is great value for the size and money. Motoryachts of her length are not usually equipped for large parties, but the T52 begs to differ. She hides a six berth accomodation across three full-height cabins in her svelte lines, with an option for a crew cabin in the lazarette as well.
Hand-laid teak adorns the flybridge, while the accompanying wet bar, fridge and barbeque will ensure that friends and family enjoy their time up there.
At 60’, she is one of the smallest cats made by the Poland-based yachtmaker. Fans of catamarans know that useable space is aplenty on these yachts, and its not unusual to see cats with flying bridges today, but when she was made in 2006, her bridge certainly caught the attention of the boating world.
Because of the thought given to designing this yacht, she remains as useable today as when she first came off the line. Her flybridge is a central location for sail control lines, winches, and electronics – all of which are repeated in the lower bridge. There is a helm up here as well that can seat two in comfort.
Due to her hybrid propulsion, the Sunreef 62 is not meant for beginner boaters, but neither is she a pure sailboat so she’s not that unapproachable either.
